Cats on the beach: The first step is the hardest

How come cats don't go to the beach? I see cats all the time, on the road, in their yards, on grassy fields ,even riding in cars.
I saw cats at the all the vets I visited, there are cats that live next door to me and hang out in my yard. Megan has cats,
I never see a cat at the beach. Is it a rule, no cats allowed?
I don't get it. Is it because there are so many dogs at the beach that they would be outnumbered?

They should start a club and all go to the beach together. I bet the dogs would leave them alone if 10 or so cats were cruising side by side.

I know from experience not to stick my nose too close to a cats face.
I went to a friend of Bones one day,  there was a big red cat on the porch. He looked friendly, so I approached him gingerly. I really just wanted to sniff him. He whacked me in the head so hard I took off running. He chased me all around the big yard he lived in. Bones found this quite hilarious, real funny. I wonder how he would like it if one of those huge cats whacked him in the head and chased him around?

Lions that is the word I am looking for.

Bones and I and Roxy went to Hammond's  beach. Bones met an old friend there he had not seen for 3 lifetimes (dog life's). The friend had many stories from the past that Bones had forgotten. One concerned Jesse and his first steps.

I guess when Jesse was very young and had not learned to walk on 2 legs yet he was a very rapid crawler. It seems the humans were concerned that he may never get to his 2 feet, and might walk on all 4's forever.

I wonder what the big deal is? Dogs do just fine on all fours, as a matter of fact we are faster, more agile, and able to jump higher.

The story as I heard it:
The old friend and Bone's were in a house with a bunch of friends when Jesse decided it was time to begin his  walking career.
He got up, ran across the room and dove into a big pillow. Jesse called them beanbags when reminded of the episode. Jesse continued to run from wall to wall, jumping into the bean bags for hours.

It seems a baby  humans first steps are a big deal to the older ones. I think Jesse was waiting for an audience to share his special moment with.

When his friend left, Bones and he hugged each other. I suspect that is how they sniff each other.

Bones told me Jesse has an incredible memory, he even recalls episodes from when he was in the womb.

The whole time Bone's was reminiscing Roxy was chasing the tennis ball.  I was kind of fascinated by the 2 old humans and their stories, so I hung around and listened. I have never had a friend for a long time like that.

Roxy is my best friend. I want to know her my whole life.

I am going in for another treatment at the vet. Wish me luck.

Cherish your friends. Cash

  1. "How come cats don't go to the beach?". Simple, Cash: The beach is made from SAND! Why would we want to pitter patter around in a giant litter box all day?

To give my human (formally "spacey girl"; today she looks very nice and I am calling her "pretty girl") some credit, she has endeavored to explain the difference to me. And, she actually took me to a beach once, although it didn't turn out too well.

She had to carry me down hundreds of steps... I knew it was in the hundreds because she and her friend (I used to call the two of them "salt" and "pepper", pretty girl being "pepper") counted each and every step. I really don't think Pepper is all that hot with math, even though she thinks she is all that, because I counted along with her and those steps numbered in the hundreds, but she still kept calling them Thousand Steps. But, I digress.

So, Pepper took me to the beach that day and I did sort-of, kind-of enjoy myself at one point (humor my human is probably a better way of putting it). First, I had to get over the whole litter box thing. But, then I saw some motion along some rocks and scampered over (ok, maybe not "scampered"... I think you dogs do that. Make that "cautioiusly approached"). There was something moving, definitely, and I was facinated.... so, after watching and analyzing the situation for about 3 full minutes (no sense in moving too hastily is one of my mottos, never know what could happen...), I gingerly reached my paw out to grab it. Yowee! It was WET! There was WATER in between me and that moving object. Salt and Pepper had a good old time laughing at me and said something about a tide pool and seaweed, whatever that is. All I know is now I had two reasons not to like the beach... walking in a big old giant litter box and getting wet. In case you don't know, cats are not very fond of water.

Hope that helps satisfy your curiosity. Funny, I didn't even know dogs were curious... thought that was a trait that belonged to us cats.

Hmmmm, maybe dogs are smarter than you look... at least some of you :-) meow
